Weed in Valletta

Valletta is the capital and largest city of Malta. It is located on the main and largest island of Malta. The city has a unique architecture and feel, due to its mixture of 16th-century buildings with baroque and neo-classical architecture. The country also has a unique heritage with heavy Italian, British and Arab influences. In recent years Malta has been moving towards a more liberal cannabis policy. Finding weed or hash in Valletta should not be much of a problem.

Cannabis laws in Malta

In 2015 Malta decriminalized possession of small quantities of drugs and in 2018 medicinal marijuana was legalized. This means that if you are caught with a small amount of weed, meant for personal possession and this is your first offense, you can expect to receive a fine between 50 and 100 euros. Future cannabis possession will be treated more seriously and you might be forced to attend a rehabilitation program. Growing and selling weed is treated more seriously and can be considered as a criminal offense.

Malta has a lot of weed smokers and the country seems to be moving more and more in the direction of legalization. That being said, you still need to be careful with how much weed you carry on you, to avoid getting in more serious trouble.

Finding weed in Valletta

While not as popular as in Spain or Italy, weed and hash are becoming more and more easily available in Malta. Usually, if you ask any Maltese teenagers or students they will be able to hook you up. Otherwise, you will need to ask some of the people selling souvenirs around the tourist spots and beaches.
