Weed in The Hague

The Hague, famous for being the home of the International Court of Justice, is the third-largest city in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Besides being important politically and economically, The Hague can offer a lot of fun to its visitors. There are places to go out and the university makes sure that there a lot of young people partying through the city. The yearly King’s Day celebration is also one of the biggest in the country. Cannabis is tolerated by Dutch law, and there are coffeeshops where weed can be purchased legally.

Cannabis laws in the Netherlands

The Dutch government has a policy of tolerance towards cannabis use. While technically illegal, cannabis is legally sold by coffeeshops all over the country. There are certain restrictions, however. You need to be 18 to enter and you are not allowed to buy more than 5 grams of weed at a time. Theoretically, you are also only allowed to smoke in the coffeeshop or at home. However, there are a lot of people smoking in parks and on the beach. It is best to use common sense about where to smoke.

  • Dizzy Duck: This coffeeshop is located on Trompstraat 210, which is a bit away from the center, it is open from 10:30 to 12 every day. This is the place locals go to smoke. It has friendly staff, great selection, and prices. The only downside is that there is no big sitting area, meaning sometimes you will have to find another place to smoke.
  • Coffeeshop Waterworld: It is located on theĀ Gedempte Burgwal 55, which is quite central and is open from 8 AM to 1 AM every day. This coffeeshop has a great location as well as good prices and a lot of different options to chose from. It also has a good amount of places to seat.
