Mons is located in the French part of Belgium, Wallon. It’s a charming city with a great history and architecture, that is well worth the visit if you are in Belgium. Besides the beer and the food, you might want to smoke some weed. However, cannabis is not yet legal in Belgium, and finding something to smoke in Mons can be hard. But not impossible. Keep on reading for our cannabis guide to Mons:
Cannabis laws in Belgium
Being sandwiched between the Netherlands and France, the Belgians have little choice but to enjoy smoking weed. However, the laws in Belgium are not as liberal as one would expect, but also not too bad in the greater scheme of things. Currently, the possession and use of marijuana for personal use are decriminalized. This means that if you are caught smoking a bit of weed, the worst punishment you can expect is a 200 euro fine. Usually, if you have less than 3 grams on you, the police will assume that you are smoking weed for your own personal use. For the sale and distribution of cannabis you can expect a more serious punishment.
Overall, Belgium is not ass cool about weed as the Netherlands, but they are also not too strict. If you are just a tourist that wants to enjoy a couple of joints, that’s usually fine. Just don’t smoke in public places or disturb people with your weed use and everything should be fine.
Getting weed in Mons
While it can be hard to find weed in Mons if you don’t know any locals, it is worth trying. The best place to start is the city centre, around the train station. In the evening, there are some shady people hanging out, many of whom sell weed. It can be off-putting to approach a Moroccan migrant and ask them for weed, but there isn’t another way to do that in Mons. Be careful and always ask to see the weed before you pay for it, as you might get ripped off otherwise. You can expect to pay around 10 euros per gram.
