For 20 grams to 1 pound, you can expect a punishment of 3 to 10 years and a fine of 10 000 to 50 000 Dominican pesos. Finally, for more than a pound of cannabis on you, the punishment is 5 – 20 years in prison and a fine of 50 000 or more.

The reality on the ground is that many people that are caught with just a joint might get away by bribing the cops, but the official punishments are severe. If you do decide to smoke weed in the Dominican Republic, you need to be careful.
