Weed in Chiang Mai

When it comes to Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is the place to be. In the last few years, it has become the main hub of Digital Nomads, but asides from that there is a lot to do there. Museums, temples, festivals, and clubs. Chiang Mai has it all and cannabis is no exception. Thailand has strict laws, but the cops seem to turn a blind eye when it comes to smoking a joint. Read on for more details on cannabis in Chiang Mai.

Cannabis Laws in Thailand

The Thai laws about drugs are extremely harsh. Theoretically, you can go to prison for possession of weed, but that almost never happens. The cops focus more on the traffickers and dealers and try not to harass visitors too much. It is also important to consider that the police in Thailand are corrupt and if you are caught smoking you are more likely to be asked for a bribe than to go to jail.

The marijuana laws in Thailand sound scary, but the enforcement is not that harsh. Throughout the country, there are ‘happy bars’ that sell weed pretty much in the open. Just be discrete and don’t smoke on the street and everything should be fine.

Where to Get Cannabis in Chiang Mai

There are a few good ways to get cannabis in Chiang Mai. Arguably, the easiest thing to do is ask a tuk-tuk driver. The problem with that is that they will give you a bad price and the quality is usually bad, but they are everywhere. A better way to get weed is to go to a backpacker hostel and ask around. Most of the people there smoke and often times the employees themselves sell weed. The quality and the price are better, but oftentimes only people that sleep there have access to the weed. The quality of the weed is much worse compared to what you might be used to in Europe or the US, but it will get you high. The prices are great, at a few dollars a gram and most of the dealers sell bags of 10-30 grams. It is near impossible to just get a few grams.
